Shane Carwin UFC Heavyweight Champ - Expect It

Sure, it's always a bit dangerous putting your neck out and making predictions in MMA. Anything can always happen, but if there was ever a fighter that was worth sticking your neck out for it has to be Shane Carwin. Out of the 11 wins that make up his perfect professional record, he has 5 submissions and 6 knockouts. I personally agree with Bas Rutten's assertion that the best fighters are those who show they can end a fight either standing or on the ground. Just like Rutten, Carwin is currently 50/50 each way.

In his fight against Gabriel Gonzaga, he showed that even when he does collect a punch straight on the chin he has the ability to stay clear and keep coming. Everybody pro fighter gets their bell rung at some stage, so the question is how do they handle it. Watch the video below for a refresher on how well Carwin does handle it:

Yes, Frank Mir has been doing better lately. Yes, he's stronger than he was before and has improved his stand up. Is that enough for him to take out Shane Carwin? Maybe, but I don't think so. The way I see it, Shane Carwin takes out Mir, maybe not in the first round as usual, but at some point it's going to happen. The next thing we'll see is Shane Carwin vs Brock Lesnar, and even Mir himself said that Carwin is just like Lesnar but only better.

There's only one way this is going, and that is that in 6-8 months time we see Shane Carwin crowned the UFC Heavyweight Champ. Once he gets it, even though there are some other sharks coming up in the division, I think he's going to hold onto it for quite a while.

Now let's see if I get proven right.
